The Fan Voice: "Top 5 Reasons Hedo Should Be Howard's Dunk Partner"
By Live or Die Magic | February 6th, 2009
Reason #5: Hedo could finally say he made it to the NBA All-Star Weekend, leading to this exchange between Hedo’s agent and Otis Smith:
Hedo’s agent: "Hey Otis, now that Hedo has made it to all-star weekend, that should be good for another million or two per year, right?" Otis Smith: "Who is this? Uncle Leo?"
Reason #4: If Howard chooses Hedo, it would mean that the Orlando Magic would be the first team to have 5 players involved in the all-star festivities: Howard, Lewis, Nelson, Hedo, and Hanger-On Extraordinaire Tyronn Lue (the dude is his own entourage!).
Reason #3: Imagine the high comedy of seeing Howard grab the ball out of Nate Robinson’s hands – just before he is about to start his dunk – and then walk over to Hedo so they can do their voodoo routine on the ball before the national television audience. It would get old if he did it every time, so he’d be better off saving it for the final round. I can hear the insane comments from Charles Barkley right now.
Reason #2: If you think the voodoo routine would be high comedy, imagine the fun of watching Hedo celebrate with Dwight after a spectacular dunk. Perhaps they would chest bump, or perhaps Hedo would attempt an awkward dance. Regardless, we all need, yes, need to hear Kenny and Charles’ reactions to anything that Hedo might do! The absolute best would be if we can convince Hedo to wear a towel draped over him for the entire event, so he looked like this:

The only thing is that Barkley is still on his "personal leave" because of the drunken hooker episode....I am actually bummed by this because Barkley is funny and stupid..
"Michael, you are not quite the ladies man I had pictured. Hopefully, we will remedy that when we are in the spa spreading body chocolate on each other."

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Former A-10 standouts and Associated Press National Players of the Year Jameer Nelson of Saint Joseph's and Xavier's David West have been named to the NBA All-Star team and will square off Feb. 15 in Phoenix, Ariz. It marks Nelson's first All-Star selection, while West earns his second straight honor.

You know what would be great? Picture this scenario.
Hedo stands on the sideline, while Dwight stands somewhat crouched near the top of the key. Dwight waits until there's only 4 seconds left on the dunk timer, the crowd becomes restless. Dwight then sets an indivisible pick, rotates 180 degrees, Hedo lobs the ball towards the basket, Dwight jumps and dunks the ball down one-handed with 0.1 remaining on the clock.
The dunk contest announcer, who's David Steele, responds with:
"He lobs it up high...OH MAN!! You gotta be kiddin' me! You gotta be kiddin' me!! Howard win's the game contest!!"
The crowd then erupts, Arroyo comes out of nowhere and he and Dwight perform a mid-air body slam, and Hedo circles the court four consecutive times doing nothing but the Turkey dance. Gortat stands out of his seat and announces that no other dunks need to be seen and that the contest is over. The committee attempts to refute his claim, Gortat proceeds to fly over to the judges table, grabs the trophy, and hands it to Dwight.

Actually Hedo participated in 2002 allstar activities and he had given clutch player signals that time!
Looks like Courtney Lee is gonna the job as Dwight's dunk partner:
quote:
The Magic will play host to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday before the All-Star Break. The Magic will use their team plane to transport their three all-stars and their families to Phoenix. They will head out on Thursday. When asked who would assist him in the Dunk Contest with Jameer nelson being injured Dwight smiled and said Jameer would have to toss him the ball one-handed. Rookie Courtney Lee will be making the trip with his teammates, and could be a surprise replacement for Nelson as Dwight's "teammate" assist.

This makes sense. A week or two ago, I overheard Courtney asking a Magic staffer how he would go about making arrangements to go to the All-star festivities. Of course, this was before Nelson was hurt.
The point being, if Lee was already planning on going (and Turk had previously made other plans - vacation, etc.), then he is the natural replacement.
Either Lee or Turk should be able to do well enough passing the ball to Howard for him to repeat as champ.

Hedo usually travels to Turkey during the All-star weekend, but he may cancel just to attend one.
