Gortat is a professional. He'll show up and work and he will get his chance someday.

I completely understand where he's coming from. But keep in mind people, being disappointed and not wanting to play for the Magic are two different things. If I were in his shoes I know I would've loved the opportunity to play 30-40 min a game vs what he's going to get now. I sure hope this doesn't cause him to not be the chipper warlock he's always been. I'm pretty sure it's like Dwight Howard losing Courtney and Turk. It hurts but it'll all blow over by training camp.

and that's commendable - but I do hope his attitude doesn't reflect what the article sums up. There's a reason restricted free agents exist. We're not going to mismanage our assets or team for the sake of him "carving his own path." He'll have his chance. Patience pays off. It did while we waited for him to be something more than a Summer League cult figure.

I would be very suprised if Marcin plays with any less energy and enthusiasm than he did last year. I think that the bottom line is that he wants to play. He has made enormous strides in developing his game over the last couple of years with the Magic, and I think he is smart enough to know that continuing to practice with Dwight and learn from Patrick Ewing will help him when he does get starters minutes. Will he be able to improve enough to take over the backup PF minutes to increase his playing time? Who knows, but I expect him to be sufficiently motivated to. Also, I think he is smart enough to know that if he doesn't continue to play as he did last year, the odds decrease on him being traded to somewhere he can start. Remember, as an RFA whose offer was matched, he has to agree to any trade this year. The harder he works, and the better he plays, the better offers the Magic get for him; and the greater the likelihood he can get traded somewhere to start. Even if he doesn't get traded, the more he works on his shot, the better the odds he gets more playing time. I think once he really sits down to think about it, the happier he might be.

Marcin's best move is to come in and play as hard as he possibly can to drive up his trade value so the Magic have the best opportunity to trade him. If he comes in and tanks it, he's got to know that will make it impossible for the Magic to find a taker for his huge contract. Marcin needs to prove to other teams that he's really worth almost $7 million a year, so he can get that chance to start for someone else.

Dwight's already messed up Battie and Lee. Gortat has to somewhere close to next on the list. Just don't tug on his cape Marcin. Just don't tug on his cape. formerly known as stanvandamme Sig Credit: AddiFB

how can you guys be pissed about this? if he was happy about just collecting a check and not playing hed be viewed as only caring about money i like it that he wants to play, it shows that hes really confident in his abilities i just hope he decides to use this as motivation to make himself so valueble that he either becomes the starting PF here, or causes so many offers to come in for him that we have to accept one
