Do you all remember when Gortat was first drafted. Some of us didn't even realize that we drafted him until he played in our summer league. Even then we didn't think much because he went back over seas to play. I think it wasn't until after the 2nd summer league stint that we all started to take notice of him and hoped that he would come on board. I think a big part of that was Gortat practicing against D12 and being tudored by Ewing (he wasn't only exclusively tudoring D12). I think Rakovic falls in the same story line. He was drafted last year but didn't play in our summer league (if I recall). He is now on our summer league roster this summer! We'll see how he does and hopefully Otis and the scouts picked up a gem as they did with the "Warlock" or "Polish Hammer". Man, I'm going to miss that guy!!!

Does he eat landmines instead of burritos?

Cuz he's up against some tough legend, Gortat eats Panzer tanks instead of pork chops.

Your right we didn't draft Gortat. He was sent to us via cash considerations by Phoenix. I wonder how much. He is so popular he now has his own Wiki page!!!

At the shooting range Rakovic practices with M-60's and Grenade Launchers instead of sissy handguns like Gortat!!!

It marks Nelson's first All-Star selection, while West earns his second straight honor.

I'll be the first to admit I thought Gortat was garbage for a long time, but I wasn't aware Marcin was such a gifted athlete. Any time you have an athletic 7-footer, he can help your team if the coach uses him properly. But, Gortat has also demonstrated he is surpisingly skilled, & an all around great team guy. Is Rakovic athletic or is he a big stiff??? No idea.

I'm sure I'll be labeled a racist for this...

But, all the Serbian players seem to have a lot of common character flaws. Questionable desire, work ethic, bad teammates, & incredibly moody. They all seem to be tough, but they lack an ounce of competitiveness.

Darko came to be known as the "Incredible Sulk" in Memphis. They brought in Marko Jaric hoping it would help him assimilate to the team, city, life in the US & he got worse. Pavlovic's career has been dogged by the same issues.

"I think he's much better than those two (Garrity & Cook). I think he'll be a much bigger asset than Battie. I still think he's a finesse player who fails to address the Magic's need". - KITNO (epic RA hater)

For what I've seen and heard of them in Europe, unfortunately Rakovic is no Gortat at all. His skillset is not so developed as Marcin was before heading to America, and it's not athletic like him.
I think that the Magic will choose the same path they'd taken with the Warlock. Give him a shoot in the summer league, sending him back to Europe and let him develop with playing time.

Just my opinion.

But I heard all the same stuff when people talked about Gortat...he was a stiff, no athletic ability etc. I'm only going to trust my eyes when he plays in the summer league!
